PROSOFT|MVI94-MCM|Modbus Communication Module
Description
The MVI94-MCM is a serial communications module for the Rockwell Automation® FLEX® I/O platform. It facilitates communication between Modbus-compatible devices and the FLEX backplane, supporting both Modbus Master and Slave operations.
Key Features
- Simple Ladder Logic: Operates via straightforward ladder logic.
- Configuration Flexibility: Complete setup and monitoring through a Debug port and user configuration file.
- Versatile Compatibility: Interfaces with a wide range of Modbus protocol-compatible devices, including Modicon® PLCs and SCADA packages.
- Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Equipped with diagnostic capabilities and troubleshooting tools.
- Safety Compliance: Adheres to Class I, Division 2 wiring standards for hazardous locations.
-
Communication Ports:
- Serial Port (PRT1): Mini-DIN RS-232 with hardware handshaking.
- Application Serial Port (PRT2): Mini-DIN RS-232/422/485, jumper selectable, 500V optical isolation from the backplane.
- Power Requirements: Powered by Class 2 outputs only.
Technical Specifications
- Form Factor: Single Slot 1794 Backplane compatible, can be located in any slot of the backplane.
- Backplane Current Load: 20 mA @ 5 V.
- External Power Supply: 12 Vdc to 24 Vdc, 340 mA to 170 mA.
- Operating Temperature: 0°C to 55°C (32°F to 131°F).
- Storage Temperature: -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F).
- Shock Resistance: 30 g operational, 50 g non-operational, 5 g from 10 Hz to 1500 Hz.
- Relative Humidity: 5% to 95% (without condensation).
-
LED Indicators:
- Module status, backplane transfer status, application status, serial activity, and error indicators.
- Dimensions (with Module Installed in Base): 3.7H x 3.7W x 2.7D inches (94H x 94W x 69D mm).
Command Execution
- Command Blocks (2001 to 2006): Control blocks sent from the processor to execute one or more commands in the module's command list out the Modbus master port. Up to six commands can be queued.
- Pass-Through Blocks (9956 to 9958, 9960): For Modbus write commands 5, 6, and 22, data is passed across the backplane for processing by the ladder logic. Commands 15, 16, and 23 have their data written to the database.
- Warm Boot Block (9998): Initiates a warm-start, clearing configuration and program status data, then loads configuration from Flash ROM.
- Cold Boot Block (9999): Initiates a hardware restart.
Safety Warnings
- Explosion Hazard: Substitution of components may impair suitability for Class I, Div. 2; turn off power before replacing or wiring modules in hazardous locations; do not disconnect equipment unless power is switched off or the area is known to be non-hazardous.
